Exciting internship opportunity 2018! Peace building and fundraising Internship at GRG in Gulu, Northern Uganda

Posted in News

The Grassroots Reconciliation Group (GRG) is looking for an intern to join our team in northern Uganda. GRG runs innovative peace building and livelihood projects that seek to rebuild war affected communities and promote reconciliation between South Sudanese refuges and Ugandan host communities. This involves a broad range of locally designed interventions, including livelihoods, microfinance, trauma support, councelling, community theatre and reconciliation activities, with about 2,500 beneficiaries in post-conflict communities and South Sudanese refugee camps in Northern Uganda

Duties and Responsibilities during internship includes:
• Conducting research on fundraising prospects and grant opportunities;
• Drafting grant proposals for foundation and other donor grants;
• Running online fundraising campaigns through social media and crowd funding sites;
• Assisting in gathering data on monitoring and evaluation of projects;
• Supporting GRG’s communication strategy through documentation, photo, video, website/blog updates, newsletters and engagement of different stakeholders;
• If a candidate has particular skills (agriculture, psychology, microfinance, etc.), GRG would be very happy to develop a placement making maximum use of these skills and interests;
• There will also be time where the Intern can work on his or her own research projects.

Requirements:
This Internship is mainly aimed at graduate students and/or professionals with a background in conflict resolution, peace studies or international development, with a flair for social media and fundraising. Key competencies:
• Degree in international development, peace studies, conflict studies or a related field;
• Knowledge of sustainable development and conflict resolution;
• Good cross-cultural communication skills;
• Good writing and research skills;
• Skills and experience in grant writing;
• Web design/update and multi-media skills a plus, including blogging and social media marketing;
• Knowledge of northern Uganda and South Sudan a plus;
• Previous volunteer experience in developing or post-conflict context a plus.

The internship is unpaid (interns from abroad will be expected to cover their own flights and living costs), but provides excellent field experience at a peace-building NGO in a post-conflict setting in Africa. The Program Director will provide close mentoring and professional development support.

Duration for Internship: 6 months starting: January 2019. However, alternative proposals (including different start dates or altered duration) may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Deadline for applications: November 30th 2018. Successful applicants will be contacted directly for Skype interviews.
