GRG is extending application deadline for its Peace and Development Internship Program.

Peace building Internship at GRG in Gulu, Northern Uganda

The Grassroots Reconciliation Group (GRG) is looking for an intern to join our team in the Gulu field office, northern Uganda. GRG runs innovative peace building and livelihood projects for the reintegration of former combatants of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and their war affected communities. This involves a broad range of locally designed interventions, including livelihoods, micro-finance, trauma support, community theater and reconciliation with about 1,880 beneficiaries in post-conflict communities of Northern Uganda.

Duties and Responsibilities during internship includes:

– Conducting research on fundraising prospects and new areas of operation;
– Drafting grant proposals for foundation and other donor grants;
– Assisting in gathering data on monitoring and evaluation of projects;
– Designing baseline methodologies for new projects and writing evaluation reports;
– Supporting GRG’s communication strategy through documentation, website/blog updates, newsletters and engagement of different stakeholders;
– Guiding emerging programming opportunities as they emerge;
– Focal point for the Management Information System;
– If a candidate has particular skills (agriculture, psychology, micro-finance etc.), GRG would be very happy to develop a placement making maximum use of these skills and interests;
– There will also be time where the Intern can work on his or her own research projects.

Requirements:

This Internship is mainly aimed at graduate students and/or professionals with a background in conflict resolution, peace studies or international development. Key competencies:
– Degree in international development, peace studies, conflict studies or a related field.
– Previous volunteer experience in developing or post-conflict context.
– Knowledge of sustainable development and conflict resolution.
– Good cross-cultural communication skills.
– Good writing and research skills.
– Skills and experience in grant writing.
– Web design/update and multi-media skills a plus, including blogging and social marketing.
– Knowledge of northern Uganda a plus.

The internship is unpaid (interns will be expected to cover their own flights and living costs) but provides excellent field experience at a peace-building NGO in a post-conflict setting in Africa. The Program Director will provide close mentoring and professional development support.

Duration for Internship: 6 months starting: January 5th   2018. However, alternative proposals (including different start dates or altered duration) may be considered for exceptional candidates.
