Development Internship in Post-conflict peace-building: Grassroots Reconciliation Group in Northern Uganda

The Grassroots Reconciliation Group (GRG) seeks a Development Intern in Gulu, Northern Uganda to work on grants and monitoring for innovative projects for the reintegration of former child soldiers. The Intern will aid in grant writing, fundraising, and monitoring and evaluation support to GRG, a dynamic conflict resolution/development NGO in Northern Uganda. Duties will include the following:
• Drafting grant proposals for foundation and other donor grants.
• Liaise with other NGOs and donors to solicit ideas for grant proposals.
• Assisting in gathering data on monitoring and evaluation of projects.
• As a secondary role, providing as needed program support to the Program Manager.

The Grassroots Reconciliation Group (GRG) helps former child soldiers in war-torn northern Uganda reclaim their future through locally designed projects with the twin aims of reconciliation and small-scale development. GRG projects bring together former combatants of the rebel Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and local community members in project groups of approximately 30 persons each. Together, the two groups build relationships and work hand-in-hand on projects that they design themselves, such as communal farming, brick-making, and counseling. By supporting these projects, GRG encourages the long-term social and economic rehabilitation of the war-weary people of northern Uganda.
Requirements:
• Skills and experience in writing grant proposals
• A high level of photography skills
• Web design/update and multi-media skills, including blogging and social marketing.
• Good cross-cultural communication skills
• Good writing skills, including concise narrative story telling
• Knowledge of sustainable development and conflict resolution
• Knowledge of Northern Uganda a plus.

The internship is unpaid, and interns will be expected to cover their own flight costs, but provides excellent field experience at a grassroots peace-building NGO in a post-conflict setting in Africa.

To apply, please send a CV/resume, cover letter, and 2-5 page writing sample (preferably a grant application) to Kasper Agger, GRG Co-Founder, at kasper@grassrootsgroup.org

Dates for Internship – September 2011, lasting 3-6 months.

Deadline for applications: September 12, 2011.

Hello. I would just like to clarify a couple of points before I submit my application for this development internship.

You have stated that applications close on 12th of September and that the internship STARTS in September. Is this correct?
The PD also advises that volunteers need to pay for their own flights, but it does not say if accomodation, meals etc are included or if they are also at the expence of the volunteer.

Is this the official PD or can I get more information on the position elsewhere?

    Kind regards,

    Christina Spehr
